What if you suddenly get $1 million to drink Beer?
Unexpected things happen often, but, not with everyone; and you never know when you will get to experience them, and in what way! They can either be unpleasant or pleasantly surprise you. Now take the case of Carson King, who is an American football fan, did some small stunt cheekily, but was in for a big surprise.
While watching a football match in a stadium, he realized he is falling short of cash for drinking beer. Just for fun, he made a sign asking people to transfer him some money to buy some beer and held it up on TV. He wasn’t expecting even a cent from anyone, hence continued with enjoying the game. But after a week since that little stunt, he has received more than 1 million dollars from people!
Carlson was just hoping to make some people laugh, forget about getting money, he didn’t even expect to be featured on TV. He referred to a Beer brand on his sign, which read as: “Busch Light Supply Needs Replenished.” Besides that, he also gave his username for Venmo, a mobile payment service.
When he was flashing his sign, cameras caught it and broadcasted in the whole of US during the game between Iowa State Cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes. People, who were watching the match on TV saw it, surprisingly, took it seriously and began sending him money!
When the donations in his account reached $600, Carlson tweeted after the game got over, that he has decided to donate it to University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, minus the cost of one beer can, obviously!
In the best case scenario, 24 year old Mr. King was just hoping that someone from the crowd will see the sign and give him $20 for buying a can of Busch Light. But he was pleasantly surprised to see 1 million dollars in his account and got humbled by the sweet gesture from strangers who took his fun seriously! So he decided to donate the extra money in charity. He will accept donations until the end of September.
Carson told Sky News that he selected the family hospital in Iowa because “they do amazing work for everyone in the state, and country for that matter, saving lives and giving hope to thousands of families.” That was not just all, even Busch Light and Venmo pledged to donate an equal amount which Carson will give!
Even the children’s hospital that overlooks the football stadium was reeling in a happy surprise and humbly thanked people for their donations. They replied to him on twitter saying, “It feels surreal to us, too! We can hardly believe what’s been accomplished in just over a week.”
Hold on, more good news followed for Carson King when the beer company offered the Iowa State University fan one year of beer supply! The cans being customized to include his name and the words “Iowa Legend,” complete with a photo of his face emblazoned on them!
What to say about this? Just in a spur of the moment, one person gets a fun idea to make some people laugh and ends up contributing handsomely for such a good cause. The Good Samaritan that he is, Carson wanted to help in any way he could by experiencing something that restored his faith in humanity.
