Are Destination Trailers a Trend?

Vacationing in a Destination Trailer is just something else. Millions of Americans are experiencing such a life not just for the benefits of it but beyond that. If you wish to enjoy a long vacation, at some beautiful and exotic place where hotel rooms or other such accommodations are a rarity, the first thought that will come to your mind – a destination trailer.

This one is a recreational vehicle (RV) that will let you experience the best of both the worlds i.e. relaxing outside surrounded by nature’s beauty, yet not leaving the comforts of your home. Living life like this was unheard of, even a decade ago; and you may blame the financial crisis of 2008 for low popularity and sales of the destination trailers. But since then, the RV industry hasn’t looked behind.

The advent of Destination Trailers

Though the RVs were a commonality before the 2008 crisis, i.e. in the 90s decade, destination trailers entered our vacation life only in the last few years. An increasing number of people are camping for more days than before. This change is fueled by the millennials as new data is showing their emergence as the largest group of campers at about 40 percent.

Destination Trailers are better and luxurious than conventional trailers or any other recreational vehicles when it comes to interiors. We read about their wonderful interiors in a previous blog here. Even the manufacturers of these magnificent trailers were only a handful, at the beginning of this decade. But now, quite a number of them are producing well-known models, some of who are: Forest River, Keystone, Salem Villa, Cherokee, Sandpiper, Palomina Puma, Wildwood, Sierra, Coachmen, Gulfstream, and so on.

What are the reasons for this growth?

Change is happening from both sides, people and the manufacturers. More people are opting to purchase a destination trailer and following could be some of the reasons for that:

  • People want to go for camping trips that will be more convenient than the traditional ones.

  • These vehicles are turning out to be cost-saving for people. A vacation in an RV is reducing more than 50% of costs as compared to a traditional vacation; reasons being no staying at a hotel or other such accommodation, no eating at any outside place, etc.

  • As of today, almost half-million Americans have an RV as their primary residential address, and apart from that, one million Americans live full-time in an RV!

The makers of Destination Trailers are not sticking to traditions anymore but offering varied, innovative and quality products that are attracting more people to them. This has led to the evolution of RVs, as they now come in many shapes, with many different features all of which can be customized by the end buyer too!

People, esp. the millennials are demanding fully electric Destination Trailers and ones with solar power capabilities, all of which will reduce their dependencies on the power grid. The makers are responding to them with exact such RV solutions, leading to an increase in the sales of these RVs.

You can almost sense a domino effect regarding the Destination Trailers in the last decade. Since it is a cool vacation vehicle, people will post and write about their experience on the various social media, which will convince others to go for these trailers giving more positive reviews, free publicity and more of these vehicles on the road. There is no doubt that, in a way, Destination Trailers are trending.
