Why Start Running This Spring
As things finally start opening up more from the pandemic shut down, you might have found that all of that time at home has added a few extra pounds. If you are among the lucky few to escape the excess weight, then you might find that suddenly going up a flight of stairs leaves you winded and questioning your life choices, like going up those stairs.
Fitness facilities and gyms are now allowing more people to resume their routines and start working out more. However, people find that gyms are getting crowded, and fighting for weights or equipment is frustrating. Alleviate your frustration by starting a running routine. This spring may be the perfect time to launch a new running schedule; not only will you cut the cost of a gym membership, but you can boost your immunities and get into shape.
Why start in the spring
- The weather
Seeing the snow outside isn’t the best motivator for getting out and starting to run. Not too many people want to freeze and sweat at the same time. As the days warm up, spring is the perfect in-between time when you can get a cool breeze while running to allow you to go the distance
2. Extended daylight
When you start running and getting into a routine, it might be tough to make the time. Running at night might not be the safest option depending on your neighborhood or route. As the days get longer, you might find it easier to make running a priority and extend your active time more.
The other aspect of more daylight and running outside is that you will receive a dose of vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential to your immune system, and it plays a crucial function in your mental health. Not only will you get the feel-good hormone of endorphins, but it can help your overall mental health.
3. Training for fall races
If you find that you need a goal to strive for to get you motivated to run, find a fall race that you would like to participate in and set that distance as your goal. You are allowing your body to build its stamina before taking on a race. Starting to run in the spring also allows you to sign up for other races in your area and get some experience before toeing the starting line of your goal race. You can even add other races throughout the summer months to keep you inspired.
4. Add a social aspect
There are times where you simply can’t get yourself to lace up your running shoes and head out your front door. With the spring weather, many running groups are starting up again. A running group might be the extra encouragement and accountability you need to get those feet moving regularly. A running group will also add a social aspect when running, allowing you to meet new people, especially since being isolated from the pandemic.
5. Shedding the extra pounds
As with all physical exercise, there is the potential for shedding those extra pounds that you may have added during the winter months. Couple your new exercise routine with abandoning junk food and instilling a healthy diet; you are on your way to strengthening your body.
