7 Meditation Tips to do it correctly

For our physical health, we do exercises, we go to the gym. In the same way, what is best for our mental health? A majority of people will say ‘Meditation’ and rightly so. Regular meditation practice will make you stress-free, peaceful, focused, positive and optimistic to everything in life. But there is a certain way and rules to do it perfectly and get the most out of it; which not everyone achieves correctly and ends up not benefitting from it.

With the help of the following pointers and regular practice, you will be able to attain the perfect mental state and happiness in life.

Choose your convenient place and time

It is essential for the success of your meditation. Choose a place where you will face no or least disturbance. The place should also be well ventilated, not too hot or cold. It could be your room or any natural open place devoid of other life. Select a time of the day when your mind is the calmest. Morning time after you get up can be best for meditation since your mind is clear and refreshed. Whichever time you choose, do follow it every day.

Comfortable sitting

Choose a platform where you will sit conveniently, whether it is on a bench, floor, chair, blanket, or cushion; see to it that you are appropriately balanced on both sides. Keep your back/spine erect, relax your shoulders and neck and keep your eyes closed in a relaxing manner all throughout the process.

Before you begin

Prepare yourself mentally to fully focus on the meditation, strongly keep aside all the preoccupations and worries of life. It is best to sit on an empty stomach, so try to do meditation at least 2 hours after eating anything. Plus, do keep a half-smile as you begin your mental exercises. This will help in keeping away the tension and stress from the facial muscles and making you relax, calm. You may also do some warm-up and stretching exercises before you begin as they help relax your body, improve circulation and make you feel light.

Make small beginnings

Always be realistic about your meditation goals. It will not be possible to do long meditation sessions in the beginning. Start with 5-minute sessions, and as you start doing it right, gradually increase the time by minutes. Never force yourself to sit longer than you can.

Breathing is the key

As you meditate, keep the focus on your breathing. Do deep and long breathing and make it rhythmic. Gradually and slowly breathe in, hold and then breathe out while being aware of it all the time. Perfect breathing will lead your mind to a peaceful meditative state.

Keep worries aside

Yeah, already the ‘worry’ part has been covered above. But here we are talking about the worries about meditation itself. It is not compulsory to follow any fixed techniques and procedures about meditation, so do not worry about whether you are doing it correctly or not, your own customized way will be the correct way for you. Also, don’t worry about the hands and their position. Just don’t let your posture drop, always keep spine erect and face straight.

Stop gradually

Stopping suddenly and getting up will not serve the purpose of meditation. You have to gradually do it; Open your eyes slowly, take time to feel your surroundings and come to senses, and then relax your hands and posture. You can warm your eyes by rubbing your hands and then placing them on your eyes.

Last but not least, enjoy your meditation sessions, and try not to skip it. If that has to happen, then try to minimize the absent days and get back to it again. As you notice the changes, you will love to do it and with practice, you will become pro.
