5 Great Valentine’s Day Projects for Kids

Valentine’s Day is a great time to spread the love and get kids involved with showing others how much they love and appreciate them. Children can make handmade crafts for friends or family, and if they are attending school in-person, they may even exchange Valentines with classmates. Take a look at these quick and easy projects where kids can easily show love.

1. Valentine’s Day Cards

This activity is for any child who can color, draw, or have mastered reading and writing. Have them sit down with any markers, pencils, crayons, or other art mediums and make cards for those people who are important in their lives. Not only will the child be able to present a handmade gift for the people that they love, but you also get to see parts of their personality.

2. Footprint Heart

This project is for parents with young children. With red paint, paint the bottoms of your child’s feet and press them in a heart shape, with the heels overlapping. If you are particularly crafty, you can get white modeling clay press your child’s feet in the clay, and once the clay dries, then paint the imprints in the clay.

3. Love You to Pieces

There are two ways to complete this project based on the child’s skill set. First, you can take a sheet of white card stock and draw a large heart in the center of the page and write around the heart, “I love you to pieces!” Then allow your child to take small pieces of construction paper or colorful tissue paper and glue them inside the heart.

The second way to complete this project is to have your child paint pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Once the pieces are dry, have the child glue them to the white background of their choice, such as card stock, an old photo frame, or a piece of wood painted white. Again, it should have the phrase, “love you to pieces,” around the art.

4. Stained Glass Heart

This project is for a child who can easily handle glue, drawing, and scissors. Cut out a large heart from some thick white or black paper. Cut a second heart from inside the first heart, leaving one and ½ inch from the edge; when you finished, it will look like you have a heart-shaped frame. Next, take strips of different colored tissue paper and glue the tips to the heart-shaped frame. Place the strips in whichever direction you choose; once the glue is dry, tape the heart to a window to see the beautiful colors.

5. String Art Heart

Take a regular white paper plate and cut it into a heart shape. Next, take a hole punch and punch holes at regular intervals around the outside of the heart. Finally, please have your child take a red string and thread it through the holes. They could thread the heart just around the outside or get creative and choose spots at random to cover the heart with the string.
