An unusual destination for $23,000 – Recycle Bin!

What is the purpose of the Recycle bin? Something like, to collect all the waste materials of the house before they are thrown out the next day for recycling. We all use it to temporarily keep all that we don’t require anymore, but then, there are exceptions for everything!

A man from Ashland, Oregon, did something which no one else would, just maybe someone rich like Jeff Bezos or Bill Gates may do, but no one else. He threw his life savings, about $23,000 into his recycle bin! If that was not enough, he realized his mistake a cool one or two days later.

By that time the recycle bin was emptied into a truck that went to a Recology sorting facility in Humboldt County. Fortunately, he knew this and contacted them to look out for his package. The General manager of the facility told the Santa Rosa Press – Democrat, that almost all the materials form that particular truck had already been sorted out by the time the man informed them about his life savings.

Still, the workers kept looking for his money, in case. Finally, one of them spotted a shoebox down the line and when he opened, he discovered the man’s money. It was all but just $320 missing. Hopefully, the man wouldn’t have mind that, because it’s better to recover $22680 than to not recover anything of it at all!

The amazing thing was that even after traveling for 200 miles, the money stayed intact and got back to the lucky man. Even at the Recology center, no one stole it! But one question still remains though, how on earth did that man put his money in the Recycle Bin? The amount was not small and it was almost his life savings.

People do end up putting other small and common things in the bin, for e.g. utensils, spoons, stationery, etc. which will incur only a negligible loss to the owner but something like this $23,000 is really big, isn’t it? Even that amount wouldn’t have thought that it will end up in a Recycle Bin! Thankfully, all’s well that ends well. Let’s hope that the man will be careful next time.
