Are you sharing too much about your Relationship?

Being in a relationship means usually couples bring out the best in each other and are in an amazing state of happiness. So it’s natural if they want to share their happiness with their near and dear ones and also with the world on social media.

But sometimes, the updates with your partner can become excessive and annoying for the receivers. You will need to balance out the sharing part, as to what and how much you should show to the world about your relationship. Though this concept varies in different relationships and people, it is all so subjective.

Why there should be a need to control?

What if you end up sharing sensitive information to others and regret later? You should remind yourself that once the information is revealed to others, whether the internet or any other way, there is no way it can be erased or taken back.

Your friends can turn against your partner: If you have shared any issue or problem of your relationship and are asking for opinions or expecting them to take your side, it can backfire later. If your partner and you have solved the quarrel, your friends and family may still have resentment in their minds about your partner.

Going against your partner: Sharing all the loving moments between you two is not exclusively your activity, most of the time your partner’s permission is also needed. They should also be comfortable about sharing private info, photos, videos, etc. with others. A particular media could be adorable for you but awkward for them. Besides, who wants to break their partner’s trust?

Friends and family will get sick of hearing: No one wants to know about you on a daily basis, and about every little thing, more than living their own life. It’s natural for people to get irritated if they are bombarded with the same thing over and over again. A proper gap between updates and their level of importance is always recommended.

What aspects should be omitted?

Both of you should sit together and lay down some rules as to what all should be given out to others. Everything should be approved by both of you before sharing because some things are such that they should be shared only with close friends and/or family, while some other can be shared with a lot many people.

  • Mental or Physical health: If your partner is struggling in gaining or losing weight, depression, infertility, or any other health issue, it is not a problem to share with others and make them know, but the final call should be entirely of your partner. Also sharing only in limits is acceptable, the rest things can be told if asked so.

  • Financial Info: This is an aspect in which your partner will really get angry with you if you reveal any of their financial things like salary, wealth, investments, job status, etc. will you like such a thing if they do this about you? Again, if your partner is comfortable about sharing it, then go ahead; that too, not specific, but in general.

  • Relationship problems: This issue should be revealed only to those you trust or else it becomes a gossip topic or many people. Whether it is infidelity or any other complication, the best thing is to seek professional help, apart from taking the advice of your close confidantes in friends and family.

  • Sex life: Usually, sharing about your sex life is equated to boasting. What happens privately between you two should always remain like that. People feel disgusted about hearing the specifics of your carnal activities. Besides, if you share anything from here without the consent of your partner, you may have to say goodbye to getting intimate with them again, apart from breaking their confidence.

  • The life before you: How your partner was before they met you, what they did or suffered in their life, who they dated, etc. are unnecessary things to share with others. The most important thing is the present, what and how they are now and with you. This could be a sensitive topic for your partner, their past is not yours to share.

It is never wrong if you want to express yourself and talk about how you feel, but each and every aspect of life is not equal in merit and hence the need for different rules for them. Besides, it is better to reveal some things to a person than sharing on social media.
