Bring Out the Kid Inside

You have all been told from an early age that one day you would have to grow up. For some, that day came quickly, while for others growing up was a slow process over many years. Regardless, almost everyone loses the playfulness of their youth along the way. With this loss, people tend to pack away the kid inside themselves.

Many might not see this as a bad thing, while others view it as a sad reality. This is because of the general belief, in recent years, has been to accept the correlation between growing up and becoming increasingly serious. What happens when seriousness is everything and stress becomes your closest companion? Your inner kid can help, so where did that kid go?

The answer is simple: it didn’t go anywhere. It is inside you tucked away. You simply need to choose to bring it out.

This can be achieved by doing a few simple things to fan the sparks of playfulness and enthusiasm.

  1. Laugh More:

Find things that make you laugh and don’t hold back. This could include funny TV shows or movies, the comic section in the paper, animal outtakes online, or telling jokes with coworkers and friends. Whatever it is that tickles your funny bone, find a way to make it a part of your daily life. Your inner kid needs laughter to thrive.

  2. Play More:

You need to allow your playful side to take the lead more often. Tag a friend and runoff. You might be surprised at how quickly they chase you. Try to get outside and throw a frisbee or ball. Play games with friends or family just for fun, and don’t worry about winning or losing. Whatever you decide to do, have fun doing it and don’t overthink it. As kids, we did things just for the joy of doing them.

  3. Create Something:

The act of creating challenges our imagination and helps nurture a healthy avenue to express ourselves. You could try painting, coloring, woodworking, writing, or drawing. Most of these activities have become even easier to access and do through technology, so don’t think you have to go old school to bring out your inner kid. The act of creating with any medium is enough to bring back your childhood sense of wonder and enthusiasm.

Once you have found a way to access your inner kid again, you will find that the adult in you is more capable as well. To truly thrive in our modern world, a balance is needed between the two. Focus and drive will only be reinforced by creativity and enthusiasm.  Stress can be managed with laughter and playfulness. Your inner kid can become your greatest tool in succeeding in your adult life.
