Differences Between Hairdressers and Hair Stylists

The two guarantee that the head of their client’s heads are her their shining wonder. They judge their customer’s facial highlights and head shape, talk about styling alternatives with her, and discuss charges. They at that point brush, trimmed and shading hair for the two guys and females; apply items, for example, conditioner; instruct customers on care; and include expansions, hairpieces or hairpieces varying. They utilize tools, for example, scissors and brushes, and controlled hardware, for example, hairdryers and electric razors. Notwithstanding, they should guarantee that their instruments are appropriately cleaned between customers.

Some hairdressers specialize in hair removal, including waxing and trimming; others focus on hair-straightening services. Both styles can involve considerable skill and many skills are often required. It’s easy to get confused by the various terms used to refer to a hairdresser: Hairdresser: Any person trained to cut, style, perm, color, straighten, crimp, and shape hair. In most states, a hairdresser is licensed to perform various hairstyling services, and is legally allowed to apply nail polish to the fingertips.

Self-Aware

Some stylists have simply grown up, as I did, in a hair industry that gives them real-world experience. Some of my clients got haircuts from hairstylists whose craft and style I admired. Some got my haircuts before they started out on their own.

In short, the hair industry has served me well. I look back at the photos of me in my twenties, and it’s obvious that I didn’t look like I did from hair industry work. However, I didn’t choose to be a hairdresser; the hair industry chose me. It was the result of something I had to learn and use for my career – something I got from my training. Knowing the traditions of a particular industry often plays a part in a stylist’s success in that industry.

However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Hairstylists can start their own businesses, or make more money and build on a successful career in a salon environment. A person’s personal style may make them unique, but other differences should be seen as strengths. Clients should be able to see what you have to offer, and trust that you know what you’re doing. Hire someone who fits that mold. Because of their significant contacts, many hairstylists have opened salons or training facilities in other cities or states. Before deciding on this course, though, consider whether you really want to move to another place, or if you’re willing to set up a salon in your current town. Will the change be worth the trouble? Your clients may have a vested interest in your making the move.

Bottom Line

Whatever path you choose, enjoy what you’re doing. A hairdresser may have only a few minutes to give a client, but he or she will be making a contribution to the client’s life. Hopefully, clients will see what you’ve to offer, and trust that you know what you’re doing. Remember that hair is just hair – some styles will suit some people better than others. Remember, too, that a haircut should always be less about style and more about function. In short, the great thing about hairdressing is that it’s about more than looks.
