Worrying is such a common habit everywhere that it needs no introduction. You ask yourself whether you have come across a person who hasn’t worried about anything in his/her life. But some people do it a lot and so much that their worrying drives other people mad and to add to it they feel justified.

Then it is a cause for worry. Because excessive worrying not only affects your mental health, it also harms your physical health. Worrying has not always helped anyone in any situation. Does it make you happy? No. It is a sign of deeper anxiety. Will you like to spend some time with someone who constantly worries? Most probably the answer will be no. So if you worry, you will shut others away from you, and the more it is the farther they will go.

Even after reading this if the serial worriers feel justified, then again it is a cause for worry. But for those who wish to change themselves for the better, here are some tips:

  • Write and Analyze: Whichever worries you have, jot them down on a paper one by one and then do a little research. Are your worries productive or unproductive? Those that are productive, do something about them, while the unproductive worries are nothing but “what if,” it is better to discard them.

  • Focus on the present: If you think more about the past or the future, you are bound to worry. You can’t do anything about these two tenses; it is only the present tense that you can do something about. So live this moment you have got instead of thinking of the future or past.

  • Share your worries: Keeping the worries only to you will aggravate them further but if you open up to someone and say what all you worry about, you will feel better and lighter. You will know their point of view; you will know suggestions and solutions to tackle your worries.

  • Exercising: There isn’t anything as better as working out. Apart from being beneficial for your physical health, it also improves your mental well-being. It releases your feel-good hormones; makes you confident, focused and decisive.

  • If you are unable to think in a situation, just stop: Often our minds don’t work correctly when we are stuck in any situation, it becomes vulnerable to all kinds of negative thoughts. Hence, it is best to not think at such a time, but later, when you will be able to think clearly.

  • Most of the things you worry about will never happen/have never happened: Just think about it yourself, how many of your worries have actually come to fruition in life? Very few. So why waste time worrying about fictitious things? Live your life positively.

  • Accept Uncertainty as a part of life: No matter what or how much you do, there will be certain things in life or aspects of life which will always be out of your control. Accept your limitations; uncertainty doesn’t need to always have a bad outcome. Focus on things that you can control, enjoy and appreciate them.
