Something for our Eternal Happiness: A Happy Place

Much has been written about the fast-paced 21st century and the side effects of it, like the increased stress, competition, workload, materialism, etc. Do you think people know what real happiness is? Do people of today care for their happiness or money? Certainly, life has become so complex and hectic that people are not finding time for themselves.

According to the Harris Poll Happiness Index of 2016, only about 31% of Americans considered themselves as “very happy.” Even if we discount the above factors of the 21st century, still, a general feeling of “looking at an optimistic future” is going down among the masses.

Maybe that is why the term “Happy Place” has gained traction in the last few years. For those who don’t know, happy place is any location where you feel a sense of calmness, serenity, peace. It is a place where you find clarity, where you can make clear-minded decisions.

We all need a Happy Place

It works as a refreshing change, a good temporary comma in the story of our life. It must be a place where you alone should be present, at least in such a way that, whoever is present there, is an unknown person. For some people, it is a beach or nearby any water body, for others, it is below a huge tree or can even be the terrace of a high-rise building overlooking the city.

No one made it compulsory that the Happy place should be a real physical location. You can even imagine a perfect place or scene in your mind that will calm you or fill happy, positive thoughts in you. Imagine holding some award in your hand on stage in front of thousands of applauding people, or imagine crossing the line after a tough race, etc. there’s just no limit for any imagination.

The gains of a Happy place for you

Being under stress for a long duration will adversely affect your physical as well as mental health. A Happy place helps reduce it by a good extent. You get to have some “me time,” you destress your mind, escape from the complexities of everyday life for a few minutes and get some clarity on life.

You get to figure out how your life has gone, where your life is heading, what exactly do you want in life. You get to see things from different perspectives. Being present in “the moment” brings thoughts of gratitude, which in turn, help increase overall life happiness.

So how to find your happy place?

Because happiness is a state of mind and is subjective, it is not difficult to find or recognize your “Happy Place.” Maybe some of the following clues will help you in your quest to discover your happy place:

  • Remember where you were when you experienced a deep meaning of life, serenity, and contentment.
  • Recall the places where you enjoyed the scenery, the imagery.
  • Think about the places where you appreciated the sounds of nature, birds, etc.
  • Always be open-minded, love nature.
  • Select a place which brings a smile on your face, where you will enjoy the elements.

Even if it turns out to be difficult, a place which will inspire emotional serenity and which will bring you face to face with the “real inner you” is always worth keeping. In a way, you give a powerful weapon or solution against al the negativities like stress and worries of life. It is something which cannot be taken away from you, whether it is a real place or just any visualized imaginary mindset.
